What if the First Amendment Didn't Exist?

The United States has long enjoyed the broad protections of the First Amendment — but what if these rights were to suddenly disappear? Yes, the possibility of this happening is very unlikely. Similar to how the passage of a new amendment requires approval by both Congress and the states, the repeal of an amendment is just as difficult of a feat. However, if this were to ever happen in the future of the United States, how would that affect us?

We all know that a nationwide war would break out if people started to get in trouble for speaking their minds or practicing their religion. Everyday in America people speak their voices, express their individuality and practice their own cultures, customs and religions. What if we got punished for protesting the government or even for hanging a crucifix in your home? What if we got thrown in jail just for listening to our favorite kind of music or watching our favorite foreign film? Many people do not understand what they would not be able to do, or what they could possibly be jailed, or even killed, for doing.

We take these rights for granted. In other countries, whose citizens do not have the power of the First Amendment, people are imprisoned for wearing religious accessories.; people are executed for speaking out against the government; people are starving to death as punishment for talking outlaid about other religions and cultures. Computers and technology in these countries are censored, and music and television are filtered. Some countries even dictate where, and on what soil, dead family members can lay to rest. You could say that many people of these countries are brainwashed and are barely treated as people.
